Coastal Gothic Color Palettes: Hex Codes and Decor Ideas

Every shade on this coast has been through something. The grey of driftwood stripped bare by salt water. The black of a hull left to rot in the sand. The amber of a lighthouse beacon cutting through fog.

What Is Coastal Gothic?

Coastal gothic is what happens when the sea takes the place of the forest. It carries the same slow, watchful mood as dark cottagecore, but the textures shift. Moss becomes kelp. Candlelight becomes a beacon. The overgrown garden becomes a marsh, a tide pool, a wreck half swallowed by sand.

It draws from maritime folklore, storm weather, and the particular quiet of a coastline that has outlasted every ship that sailed past it.

The Colours of the Coast

These colours are not bright. They are storm cloud, deep tide, hull black, and the dull gold of a lighthouse beam through mist.

They are the colours of things worn down by salt and water and time, not softened by it.

About This Collection

This is a growing collection of coastal gothic colour palettes drawn from driftwood beaches, shipwrecks, tide pools, and salt marshes along the Atlantic coast.

Each palette is named for what it came from, and will link to its own post over time.
